Featured Speakers and panelists

Richard Packham
Richard Packham

Our dinner speaker for Saturday night's session will be our much-loved "Guru of Information", Richard Packham, first President of The Exmormon Foundation. Richard's web site has been a fount of information for those seeking the truths about the history and doctrine of Mormonism, and Richard is still very active in helping those who write to him find the information they need in their transitions out of Mormonism.

Tal Bachman
Tal Bachman

On Saturday, we'll hear from musician Tal Bachman. For those who often "hear the music but don't remember the name", Tal's 1999 hit, "She's So High" is still heard in pop music rotations on radio stations around the world. He is the son of Randy Bachman, of Bachman-Turner Overdrive, who joined the church many years ago. Tal plans to share his story under the title, "The Case for Truth", and will perform a little of his music for us Saturday night after Richard's talk.

Tom Donofrio
Tom Donofrio

We're happy to announce that Tom Donofrio, author of Early American Influences in the Book of Mormon and Book of Mormon Tories, will also be speaking to us this weekend. Tom has made significant inroads regarding the source materials used in writing the Book of Mormon. Tom will reveal some sources you may never have heard of before.

Ken Clark
Ken Clark

Next in this year's lineup is Ken Clark, former career CES employee, Institute Director, and Bishop. Ken will present compelling concepts about the psychological aspects of being a Mormon, including institutionalized psychological manipulation, the causes of some self-destructive behaviors, and the roots of common Mormon anxiety and stress. Ken's insights about the inner workings of the Church Educational System and LDS governance proved popular at last year's conference.

Duwayne Anderson
Duwayne Anderson

Duwayne Anderson will discuss how the Mormon church uses and abuses statistics to promote itself. In particular, he will be addressing a recent paper published by Ray M. Merrill, PhD, MPH, Department of Health Science, BYU. He will also discuss his published papers about church growth rates, Utah's production of scientists, and statistical questions about numbers in the Book of Mormon. Duwayne was raised in the church, served a mission in British Columbia, was married in the Manti temple, and graduated from BYU with a degree in physics. He is the author of two books, Troubleshooting Optical-Fiber Networks and Farewell to Eden: Coming to Terms with Mormonism and Science, in addition to several dozen trade journal articles. An expert horseman, Duwayne also enjoys kayaking, mountain climbing, and hiking with his family.
